Ben's Blatherings

January 4, 2015

If there's one genre of video games that I am a huge fan of, it would be the HD collection.

HD collections are what have usually helped me get into certain game franchises that I have always been curious about or interested in, especially given their popularity. For those who don't know, an HD collection is usually a compilation of several games from a specific video game franchise, only remastered in HD. I own several, and are enjoying them quite a bit.

However, there are some franchises that are either overdue for a collection of some sort, or surprisingly haven't received one yet. For this reason, I have decided to put together a list of what I consider to be "the top 5 video game franchises that deserve an HD collection."

And before we begin, let me just say that I don't think that opinion matters entirely here. (And also, this list isn't in any particular order.)

5: Tie-Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon
While it certainly wouldn't be as easy to make collections for these two franchises as it would be for some of the others on this list, these are two that I really think shouldn't be left in the dust any longer. Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper have all gotten HD collections, so don't you think it's about time Crash and Spyro get ones as well?

4: Fatal Frame
To be honest with you guys, I haven't played any of the Fatal Frame games, but an HD collection would be a great way for newcomers like me to be introduced to the series. It could also help spark more interest in the series here in the US as well.

3: Tie-Xenosaga and Hack//GU
This is another tie because I think both of these series are very similar to each other. They both stand out pretty well in the huge crowd of RPGS on the market, feature lengthy, complex, interesting, and creative storylines, and star a cast of memorable and iconic characters. They also contain unique and interesting gameplay mechanics that help make them a blast to play through. These games are known for being extremely lengthy, but with some effort I'm sure they could both receive the proper collections they deserve.

2: Max Payne
Okay, I'm not exactly a huge fan of the Max Payne games. But in general, this series would be perfectly suited for some sort of HD collection, and I'm surprised one (to my knowledge at least) hasn't been made yet. It's pretty overdue if you ask me.

Before I get to number one, here are some honorable mentions.
Dynasty warriors
Do I really need to explain?
DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi
Now that they've made an HD collection for the Budokai games, why not do the same for the Budokai Tenkaichi games as well?
Ape Escape
This series hasn't been heard from in a while, so a collection would certainly help raise interest in the series again.
Tie-Armored Core and Front Mission
Same as Dynasty Warriors.

1: Ty the Tasmanian Tiger This is a series that not a lot of people tend to talk about nowadays, and much like some of the other entries on this list it would be perfectly suited for an HD collection. There actually has been talk of a possible fourth installment in this series, and helping this series earn a new generation of fans would be a great way to make a new installment even more likely. Especially seeing as how the third game (sort of) ended on a cliffhanger.

Hello! My name is Benjamin, but you can call me Ben if you’d like. I live on Long Island with my parents, my older sister Isabella (who’s in college most of the time), and our pet cat Trotsky. I dream of being a writer someday, and sometimes I might share details of some of my story ideas. My parents were the ones who told me to start this blog. I know it's not much right now, but I promise it will get better over time.

This is only an introduction so I don’t have much else to say, but I hope you guys look forward to reading my (hopefully) many future updates and entries! Bye for now!
